How can people know what bands to see -- especially with so many silly band names out there?!?

I've been hearing a lot from people who don't go to shows because they don't know what bands to see. I hope that this web site will help to change that.

Though I want to avoid overcategorizing bands too much, we may develop a way that you can find other bands that play similar styles.

One goal of this web site is to feature an encyclopedic cross-reference of individual musicians' band histories. So, if you like a particular musician, you can look up their profile and see what other projects -- past and present -- with whom they are involved. Maybe we can even help distribute some of those CD's of dead projects that so many musicians have a box of gathering dust in their closets!

Let's give Portland's music scene a shot in the arm!
Hey everyone,

There is sooo much musical talent in Portland -- and so many great bands. Sadly, though, bands -- especially of the "jamband" variety -- often don't get the attention and support they deserve. Or, they get bad press because the local media, for whatever reason, have a penchant for bashing bands that like to jam, and are irresponsible with the power they yield to damage a band's reputation. These too often result in bands' untimely dissolution.

So I followed the indy-media's creed: if you don't like the media...BECOME the media!
